Call

You know I can't leave this issue alone. Don't worry, B, I won't go off and exalt anyone unnecessarily. ;)

Perhaps Doc Taylor was onto something when he said we should get rid of the sacred cow of "call." I agree with him for different reasons than he might expect, though. "Call" is an archaic term to most common Christians. Kudos to those pastors who teach the principle, but what if we spent as much time and energy following God as we do trying to figure out the specifics of our call? Few young people know what it means; as many older people are intimidated by the term. Sack the principle? Never. Slaughter the sacred cow? Please.

It must be ESP, Jo, because I haven't read anything you said. Thanks for the defense, though. I imagine that if those worshiping at the feet of this sacred cow were also readers of my blog, I'd be in some hot water. (Unfortunately for me, I've been pretty vocal about this lately.) ;^)

*cough* You mean, you don't read my blog? FOR SHAME. ;)

Actually, Dani (if you read this), I just read your blog before looking back on here. :) I wasn't sure what to comment on your "random" post except that there are a lot of things Christians do that drive me up the wall - like scare people with difficult to understand words.

I'm just peached that you read my rag of a blog; comments are appreciated but not expected. There generally isn't much content to my posts, just asides and brief notes.

I concur with your reference to the difficult to understand words: that's why I find theology so intimidating. It's a plethora of definitions and keywords that requires paragraphs of explanation. I'm a simple girl who needs practical and to-the-point.

Say hello to your lovely wife for me. :)

People in the Bible received a specific call - Moses, Abe, etc. But then there were those who didn't - Our friend Isaiah. God said, "Who will go?" Isaiah overhears and says, "Hey, I will!"

I believe in the specific call, though not necessarily for everyone. But I am more concerned that God is giving more general calls, but our churches are filled with people that aren't in close enough relationship with Him to hear His voice. Or, that are saying "no" because they don't recognise His voice.. or don't want to.

And then, of course, there might be those who hear the general call, feel the general tug on their heart, and think, WOW, GOD IS TALKING DIRECTLY TO ME - JUST ME. When maybe He'd put a bug in a BUNCH of ears but most others had swatted it away. Or He'd called a crew from all OVER the place, and you will meet the other "yes's" when you get there.
